6 Hours in Iceland

Got a short layover in Iceland and wondering if it’s enough time to visit the Blue Lagoon? Short Answer: If you have a layover longer than 6 hours, then YES! We landed at Keflavik Airport (KEF) at 9:30AM and our flight to Paris was at 4:00PM so if we could do it and make it worth it, so can you! In this blog, we’ll give you our tips on how to make the most out of your short layover in Iceland.

TIMESAVING TIP #1: Buy your tickets online and ahead of time

  • The first thing that you should do immediately after booking your airline tickets is buy your Blue Lagoon tickets. Tickets are limited and depending on what time of the year you’re traveling and what time of the day you get there, they can get sold out quick! Plus, you don’t want to waste time waiting in a long line when you get there just to buy your tickets.

TIMESAVING TIP #2: If you’re hungry when you land, eat at the airport

  • If you’re landing at KEF in the morning, chances are you took an overnight flight and you’ll be hungry when you land. Our advice, grab a quick bite at the airport before you head out! At the airport you have way more options and it’s more affordable than the food at the Blue Lagoon.

TIMESAVING TIP #3: Take a Taxi

  • The Blue Lagoon is only 15-20 minutes away from Keflavik Airport! However, the bus to the lagoon only comes about every 1-2 hours. Go to the taxi line and ask someone if they’d be willing to share a taxi with you. Not only do you get to the lagoon without wasting time waiting for the bus but it actually ends up being cheaper since you’re splitting the fare!

What about our carry-on bags?!?

Take your carry-on bags with you! The airport doesn’t have any luggage storage areas but the Blue Lagoon has plenty of lockers, big & small.

Is it worth it?

ABSOLUTELY! The tickets to the Blue Lagoon itself are not cheap… But if you’re there, why wouldn’t you take this opportunity to have a once in a lifetime experience?

You can always make more money, but you can’t make more time.

If you take our timesaving tips into consideration, you’ll be able to spend a minimum of 3-4 hours at the Blue Lagoon with a layover as short as 6 hours and 30 minutes. Have fun!
